Danny Brown - 30
I said some dumb things once about not being that into Danny Brown. I take those things back. Mainly, I just feel a little silly dismissing him as a shallow sex rapper. Which, I mean, makes a little sense, as he does spend a lot of time rapping about sex. But he’s clearly got some other stuff on his mind, namely some pretty intense stuff. I love “Monopoly” and “Scrap or Die,” but “30” is pretty quickly becoming my favorite song of his. He starts the track as exactly the guy I thought he was and ends it in a completely different spectrum of rap, revealing himself as an unhinged, self-destructive personality entirely terrified and thrilled by where his life’s been leading him.
For whatever reason, there’s something I love about the lines “I feel like Billy Corgan/In the church playing organ/Covering Too $hort/Smoking a Newport.”
